Bachelor Courses in English

Architecture & Design; Bioscience; Business & Finance; Computer Science & AI; Counselling, Communities & Social Work; Education; Engineering & Built Environment; Fashion; Hospitality, Tourism & Events; Law, Justice & Policing; Media; Performing Arts; Psychology; Sport Science; and Visual Arts.  Students taking a full load of courses register for 60 UEL credits (30 ECTS/15 US credits), which represents 4 courses; the maximum allowed is 80 UEL credits. NOTE: Some courses in the Schools of Health, Sport and Bioscience are excluded. In addition, students cannot enroll in courses in Allied Health, Nursing, and Midwifery.

 

NOTE: The fall semester officially ends in mid-January. For students who need to depart earlier, UEL is generally able to support them in completing their exams early or in having them proctored by the home university. However, this would be discussed and agreed upon on a case by case basis.

 

Master Courses in English
Master-level exchanges are not possible.

 

Thesis/Final Project Work
Students interested in working on their thesis or final project while at UEL may do so; however, no credit is awarded and students must still enroll in full-time study. The university can sometimes arrange a faculty advisor or the student can work virtually with someone from home.

Orientation
Orientation events at UEL typically take place two weeks before the start of classes, with some welcome activities continuing into the first month of the term. Incoming students are welcomed by the Global Experiences and Student Life teams, receive guided campus tours, and attend information sessions on topics such as visa and immigration matters and available support services. Orientation also includes social and cultural activities that provide opportunities to meet fellow international students, build connections, and get familiar with life at UEL and in London.

 

Internships

Part-time Employment

Some students on certain visas can work up to 20 hours per week. This can only be confirmed by the Visa and Immigration team.

 

Students with Disabilities
UEL has a dedicated Disability and Dyslexia team to support students with any special educational needs or disabilities.

 

Grades & Transcripts
UEL uses the following grading scale: First-Class Honours (70% and above), Upper Second-Class Honours (2:1, 60–69%), Lower Second-Class Honours (2:2, 50–59%), and Third-Class Honours (40–49%).

 

Transcripts will be sent directly to the student and their home institution’s study abroad office. Students who attend for the fall semester will receive their transcript in February, while spring semester participants will receive theirs in July.

UEL’s International Student Advice (ISA) service, regulated by the Immigration Advice Authority (IAA), provides free, confidential advice and information on UK immigration and related matters. Exchange students will receive visa related information in their acceptance letter, as well as be contacted directly by the ISA team for further visa advice specific to their nationality and type of exchange. Housing

Residence hall or apartment. The University of East London offers a diverse range of accommodation options that cater to the needs and preferences of its students. The on-campus, waterfront residence halls are convenient, secure and comfortable with housing facilities strategically located for convenient access to campus amenities and local attractions. Housing applications from exchange students are prioritized to ensure they can secure a place on campus. On-campus housing costs range from approximately 175-231 GBP per week, depending on type, amenities, etc.

 

In addition, UEL can provide advising support regarding off-campus housing in order for students to secure safe, comfortable and supportive housing. The university has a number of partnerships with housing organizations to provide discounted accommodation to students.

 

Meals
A wide variety of grocery stores, restaurants, bars, bistros, cafes, and snack bars is available.

 

Transportation
Students can fly into any London airport. UEL is well connected by London’s extensive transport network, including the Docklands Light Railway (DLR), London Underground, buses, and trains. UEL’s Docklands and Stratford campuses are only a few minutes’ walk from public transport stations, making it easy to access central London and other areas. The university offers information and guidance to help students navigate the city, including student transport card discounts and advice during orientation.

Entertainment
On campus, students can participate in a wide range of activities, including clubs and societies, sports and fitness programs, cultural events, workshops, and social gatherings organized by the Students’ Union. Off campus, students have access to London’s world-class cultural and recreational opportunities, such as museums, galleries, theaters, festivals, concerts, and historic landmarks. The university also organizes optional excursions to help international students explore the city and surrounding areas.

 

Shopping
Typical shopping hours in London are 9am-8pm Monday to Saturday, and 11am-5pm on Sundays. Many supermarkets and convenience stores operate with extended hours, and some are open 24/7. General shopping options include supermarkets, shopping centers, convenience stores, and local markets located within walking distance or a short bus/train ride from campus. Major shopping destinations, such as Westfield Stratford City (one of Europe’s largest shopping centers), are easily accessible.

 

Climate
London enjoys a temperate climate with generally warm summers and mild winters.  Average high temperatures in summer are 68-72ºF/20-22ºC, while winter temperatures average 45-46ºF/7-8ºC.
