Located on the Mediterranean coast, Valencia was established as a Roman colony in about 200 BC. It was later ruled by the Moors from the 8th-13th century and became an important literary and intellectual center in the 15th-16th centuries. Today, it is Spain’s third largest city and a major industrial-commercial center, producing textiles, metal and chemical products, furniture, toys, and azulejos (colored tiles). Valencia is known for its orange groves and beaches. |
